NARS "Supervixen" Lipgloss Review

Hey everyone,

Man, it's a bummer when I try something and it doesn't really work out. Mani Monday is one of those things. From now on, I'm going to try and leave Mani Monday behind and focus on a nail polish when its new or something I really feel like writing about. As I mentioned in my Reykjavik post, I'm losing inspiration for a few reasons. Firstly, blogging is a huge time commitment during the summer months when I have to also earn enough money to pay for tuition, rent etc etc. Secondly, it hard to have any extras to write new posts about, and to review a product I like to make sure it's tried and tested. Thirdly, I feel as though my blog needs to improve in general- better writing, more personality and some more professional aspects, especially if this is something I want to pursue. (which I do!)

Today I'm reviewing a lipgloss from NARS named "Supervixen".
It's described as a sheer mauve with glitter, which is pretty much exactly how I'd describe it. The packaging is typical NARS with the soft matte lid and doefoot applicator, basically identical to their creamy concealers.
I took pictures of swatches in three lights. On the top we have inside lighting, middle we have natural lighting, and below is under a light so you can really see the glitter.
My lips are naturally quite a dark colour, so this gloss essentially just adds a golden shimmer to them. The formula is nice, not sticky and lasts for a fair amount of time.
In the close up you can see the glitter pigments and the almost wet finish it leaves the lips.
This gloss is very similar in formula another NARS shade, Orgasm. It's less peachy and more mauve, but if you have one, I wouldn't see the need to purchase the other.

I hope you enjoyed reading!

Travel Diaries: Reykjavik, Iceland

Hey everyone!

Now I know this is slightly unusual for me, but I thought I'd branch out a bit and use this blog for more than just beauty and fashion, and use it more as a space for me to share the things I love. If you follow me on Instagram (shameless plus) you will notice I love a lot of things, mainly makeup, travelling and varying pets. I hope you enjoy this post and that you find it interesting or helpful in some way, and if not don't fret- beauty posts won't stop!

So, in May I travelled from Toronto to Reykjavik, flying with Iceland Air. I went with my boyfriend, and we decided to go to Iceland because Iceland Air do this awesome stopover deal where you can buy a ticket to Europe and stay in Iceland for up to a week at no extra cost. We took this opportunity to explore a country we had never been to, and somewhere we has no expectations of. Here's what I thought!
We left Toronto at 9pm, and landed in Keflavik at 6am Icelandic time, but 2am our time. I didn't sleep on the plane, but it was worth it to watch leave the nighttime and fly into sunlight with some incredible views. When we landed, a shuttle took us to the Centrehotel Plaza stop in downtown Reykjavik, which was a few minutes walk away from the air bnb location we were staying at. Although exhausted, we got into our place and began the trip with a tour.
Our first stop was Geysir, and we saw some... well, geysers. The geyser 'Geysir' is no more, but there are many others, the biggest being Strokkur. It exploded every 5-10 minutes and was an incredible sight to see. It's overwhelming, beautiful and kind of scary- depending how close you stand.
Iceland was surprisingly barren (I had no idea what to expect so I may have just had no idea), but it was beautiful. We ventured up a mountain and here is Strokkur exploding from a distance. The scenery was incredible, and I can see why so many want to visit this amazing country.
The next stop was Gullfoss, a massive waterfall. I've seen a few waterfalls in my time (Niagara not being far from where I live), but this was breathtaking. To see a waterfall surrounded by scenery, rather than cheap tourist traps, chain restaurants and crappy haunted houses made a massive difference to how you perceive it. Now, Niagara is beautiful, but it's so distracting being surrounded by casinos and hotels, but to see Gullfoss was something entirely different.
Without a doubt, a highlight of my trip.
The final stop on the tour that day was at Þingvellir National Park. It was incredible, we essentially drove through two tectonic plates separating. Needless to say, cracks like this were all over the place. The park was huge and we were only there for about an hour, so basically only saw the visitors centre and the amazing panoramic view of the lake and mountains.
The next day we went to Blue Lagoon, a famous tourist destination when in Iceland. My opinion is to definitely check it out. It was stunning, the water was a pale, milky blue, and the temperature was a little warmer than a relaxing bath. We were under the impression two or so hours would be enough, but we were in the water for close to four. There were amazing steam baths, saunas, and the pool itself was soooo relaxing. Although pricey, it's a must see, and something I would certainly do again.
That night we walked around Reykjavik and scenes like this were at every corner. The people were so friendly, the atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed, and the country itself is beautiful.
To be completely honest, I had no idea what to expect of Iceland as a country. I was worried about a huge language barrier, not finding vegetarian food and it being freezing cold. I was pleasantly surprised. Most Icelanders speak fluent English, but they do appreciate an attempt at Icelandic. In fact, everyone I talked to spoke perfect English and were very lovely, polite and welcoming. The weather in May wasn't terrible, when we were there it was usually between 6 and 15 degrees depending on the time of day. The vegetarian food was the only thing I had a slight issue with, but veggie burgers are pretty standard wherever you are so it wasn't too much of a problem.
The country is very expensive, so keep that in mind. It takes some getting used to, but I think it's worth it to experience the culture of the country.

I would most definitely visit Iceland again. Reykjavik was beautiful, and there's so much more that I haven't seen. I would certainly visit again, and definitely for longer than three days.

I hope you liked this post, more travel diaries will come soon. Please let me know what you think!

Mani Monday #21

Hey everyone,

Sorry about the Mani Monday delays, of course this is going up late and it's simply because I've lost some inspiration and to be completely honest, I'm not sure what to write about any more.
Maybe a more in-depth post about that will come soon. Anyway, heres mani Monday!
This week we've switched it up from the usual Essie rant to Sephora's own brand, formula X. The shade this week is called Evocative, and it's a rosy nude with some brown undertones. Very on trend at the moment, so they're definitely doing something right.
The shade is a little deeper than my skin tone, and I think it'd look lovely on anyone. It's very wearable. It only took two coats for very opaque colour, but personally, I think only one was needed.
I do think it's a beautiful shade and looked very glossy without a topcoat. As for lasting power (no polish lasts on me for anytime over about 3 days), this lasted for a good three days but it had chipped a little bit. My nails are incredibly brittle, so I wouldn't take that and think it's not long lasting, but maybe pair with a nice base coat and top coat.

Hope you enjoyed this post- again, I'm very sorry it's late!

Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfecter Review

Hey everyone,

Since I've been on a roll reviewing lip products, I thought I'd share another with you featuring the highly talked about lip products by Clarins, the Instant Light Natural Lip Perfecter. (Perfector? Why do I want to spell it like that?) Read more to see what I think!
The packaging is pretty cute, and very simple with a tube body and gold screw cap. The tube colour reflects the shade you own (and I'm desperate to get my hands on some of the lighter shades!)
I have the shades 05 and 06
The applicator is what makes this product unique from others. It's a sponge tip which is really soft on the lips and applies the product evenly.
I'm not sure how hygienic these applicators are, but I don't intend to share so I'm not too bothered.
05 is a peachy pink shade, and 06 is a neutral brown with some mauve undertones.
Here's 05 on the lips.
And here's 06.

Overall, the product doesn't have high pigmentation at all, but it's not intended to. Rather, is a natural looking lip tint with a balm-like texture and moisturizing ingredients. It's not sticky and is designed to create a 'your lips but better' finish while keeping them looking and feeling plumper and softer.

I would love to try some more of these, because I think they make an excellent everyday lip product, however, if you're not a fan of glossy lips you won't like this product! It isn't sticky, but does leave a glossy finish to the lips.

I hope you enjoyed this review, thanks for reading!

Mani Monday #20

Hey everyone,

Today's mani Monday features a new shade from Essie, from the 2015 Summer collection. The colour I picked up is a really nice pale green, called Chillato.
I think it's such a pretty summer shade and I even like it on my chubby sausage fingers.
It takes a few shades to look completely opaque but 2/3 coats works well.

I hope you enjoyed this weeks Mani Monday!

Bourjois Paris Rouge Edition Velvet/Aqua Laque Review

Hey everyone,

While in the UK I made sure to purchase the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lip creams. The products were on sale (3 for 2) so I picked up a new addition, the Rouge Edition Aqua Laque lip cream.
I bought three in total, so I thought I'd give an overview today!
Up first is 02, Rosé on the Rocks.
Its a pretty pale pink shade with a high gloss finish.
It's not as long lasting as the other formula, but I think it's a very pretty everyday shade.
10, Don't Pink of it!
This has got to be one of my go-to lip colours at the moment. I love the mauve undertones and cooler colour, I think it compliments so many eye looks!
The matte finish isn't too drying, and lasts for a very long time!
Finally, 08, Grand Cru
This is a beautiful, classic red with more blueish undertones, something I personally prefer.
Again, the finish is lovely, it sets quickly, and it lasts for hours! I'm very impressed!!

I hope you enjoyed this post!

Dior Lipgloss Review

Hey everyone,

Another airport purchase had to be a luxury item of some kind. I've owned one Dior lipgloss before, which was a really lovely present from a friend before I moved over to Canada. That was a long time ago, but I still have it and love it. I decided to buy another one and see if I loved it as much as the other one. So far, so good!
The shade I bought was 363 Dormeuse
It's a sheer mid-coloured pink with no shimmer or glitter, just a glossy finish.
Of course the packaging is stunning, and makes a very special addition to any vanity or dressing table.
It has a small brush rather than a doe foot applicator, but I don't find it makes much difference. Because the brush is small it makes it easy to apply and you don't really need a mirror to put it on.
Here you can see the pigmentation, it's pretty good for a gloss.
While I don't think its an entirely necessary purchase, I think it makes a lovely gift either for someone else, or for yourself.

What do you think of luxury glosses? Worth it, or should you spend your money elsewhere?

Thanks for reading!

Clinique Moisture Surge Giftset Review

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the lack of posts lately- I just got back from an incredible three week vacation and I had such a good time, but had a lot to catch up with upon my return. The next few posts will consist of some vacation purchases, beginning with an airport purchase! Enjoy!
This particular set was an airport exclusive. I bought it because I had looked at the moisturizer alone and thought it was quite expensive alone, so I put it back to look for something else. Luckily, I found this gift set. I believe it was about $5.00 more, and included a full size Moisture Surge moisturizer, a Moisture Surge moisture spray, and an All About Eyes Serum, which was also full size!
Everything came packaged really nicely, in the same boxes that they would have came in if I had purchased the items separately.
I've used a full size of the moisturizer before, but never repurchased because it is quite expensive. It's a lightweight but intense gel lotion and absorbs really quickly. So far I'm not sure about the moisture spray, it's nice and refreshing but I can't say I've noticed any crazy results so far. The eye serum is also really nice and lightweight, and has a cooling roller ball which feels lovely on tired eyes!

Thanks for reading! I'll be back to the usual uploading schedule from now on!
