Guide to Pink Lips

Pink lips are perfect for any skintone. There are so many varieties on the colour which makes it so wearable and versatile. Out of all of my lip products, I have more pink than anything, and that's because on a day-to-day basis I chose a pink lip over anything else. Pinks often just add a little "oompf" to your natural lip colour, while being a bit more bold than a standard nude shade. Pinks can be formal and casual, and I think a good pink lip colour can really dress up an outfit. Here are my top pink picks!

First up is Maybelline's Colour Whisper in the shade 30 Pin Up Peach. I don't think of this shade as peachy at all, in my opinion it is definitely a pink. It's quite sheer and very moisturizing on the lips, perfect to keep in your purse or while out and about, because it adds a little hint of colour without being over the top.
Givenchy's lipstick in 201 Rose Tafettas is a very highly pigmented, long lasting matte lip colour. It is really beautiful, and very bright. I think the matte finish makes it easier to wear such a bright colour, and it is one of my all time favourite spring/summer shades.
Bourjois Sweet Kiss lipstick in the shade 61 Rose Talk is a slightly more mauve version of the Givenchy shade. It's a bit more wearable for everyday, but is still a very pretty shade. This was my first pink lipstick, one that made me feel quite grown up despite it being so wearable. I still love this lipstick today and wear it quite often.
Stila's lipglaze in the shade 28 Guava is a very glossy warm pink. It doesn't have any shimmer, but is really glossy and gives your lips a wet look. This gloss is quite sticky, but does last fairly well on the lips. It also smells incredible, and is a great shade for everyday- be careful your hair doesn't get stuck in the gloss though!
NARS Turkish Delight lipgloss is a really pale shade with blue undertones. It's quite a modern pink, and unusual. This particular shade is unique because finding pale blue-toned pinks is rare, something NARS have pulled off really nicely. It's one of their best selling glosses, and I understand why. The shade is phenomenal and suits a lot of people, plus the blue in it helps make your teeth look very white. It's a nice gloss that looks wonderful layered over a lipstick or on it's own.
Laura Mercier's lipgloss in BabyDoll is my standard pink gloss. It is glossy, has a bit of a sparkle and can be worn over any colour, seriously- nude, coral, red, anything. It adds a nice sheen to the lips without being too wet looking and I usually take this with me when I don't have any lip product on just to feel a bit more dressed up. It matches everything and something I will surely repurchase.
OCC's Lip Tars are becoming cult beauty favourites. I have the shade Memento. The tiniest amount can be applied and cover your lips. It's incredibly pigmented, more so than any other lip product I have mentioned throughout this entire series. It is a wonderful, long lasting laquer that rarely needs to be reapplied. It can be layered with a gloss, as this is a matte finish, but on it's own it looks wonderful too- just apply a pinhead amount!
Smashbox's lipstick in "Pout" is a shade I was given while working at a cosmetics counter, and to be honest it scared the hell out of me. It is a Barbie, pornstar pink that I thought would look like one of those wannabe nude shades, cancelling out any natural lip colour and looking like you were constantly making a duck face. I tried it once a few years ago and really didn't like it, but I've tried it more recently and am plesantly surprised. Light pinks have to be worn carefully, it can look really fake if you over do it. When applied lightly and with a gloss over top, the blue toned shade can be very flattering. Now that I've retested the shade I think I will get a lot more wear out of it, and I think it will be a lovely summer shade.
Swatches from left to right: Maybellines Pin Up Peach, Smashbox's Pout, Givenchy's Rose Tafettas, Bourjois Rose Talk, Stila's Guava, NARS Turkish Delight, Laura Mercier's BabyDoll and OCC's Memento.
